When the multiplier is not a whole number, where does the curve split open?

Composing the first frame…

Put n points on a circle and join each point k to m·k, counting round past a full turn. For a whole-number multiplier the chords crowd into a curve with m − 1 tips; drag the multiplier from one whole number towards the next and the curve splits open on the side where the numbering wraps back to the start, with the next tip growing out of the gap. Keep n at 480 and try a multiplier near 242, 162 or 122: the heart becomes two hearts, three, four.
